Magento Announces Magento Mobile

Makes It Simple for Merchants to Create Fully Integrated, Native Mobile-Commerce Apps for iPhone, iPad and Android Phones

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Magento Inc., a leading global e-commerce technology solution provider, today unveiled Magento mobile, a new product that addresses the growing need for merchants to reach consumers through mobile devices.

Magento mobile includes deep integration with Magento's fast-growing e-commerce platform, used by more than 60,000 merchants around the world; and uses PayPal's mobile payments library to provide a seamless and fast checkout experience from a mobile device.

Unlike other mobile-commerce solutions which simply re-theme a merchant's website for mobile browsers (mobile Web), Magento's product transforms a retailer's product catalog into a fully-functional, branded, native application which merchants can use to interact and transact with their most valuable customers in a way unlike any other channel.

Magento mobile solves the three main problems for retailers looking to build an effective mobile-commerce strategy:

Integration with existing systems

Deep integration with a retailer's existing merchandising, e-commerce and customer relationship management tools is key for success. Magento mobile ensures that the shopping experience is seamless for consumers who interact with retailers across multiple channels, no matter what device is used to start or complete the transaction. Easy portability to multiple mobile platforms

Since there are so many mobile devices with unique features, it is important to provide cost-efficient extensibility across multiple devices while also providing deep support for native features on each mobile device. Magento mobile will allow administrators to easily support new devices, as well as eventually add features that take advantage of the unique capabilities of each enabled device. The company plans to leverage the strength of its Magento Connect community marketplace to allow retailers to incorporate individual features for each device that are relevant to their business and customers' needs.

Support for payments

One of the biggest barriers to mobile commerce is fast, easy and safer payments. Magento mobile integrates with PayPal's mobile payments library for iPhone, iPad and Android, delivering a seamless mobile payments experience.

"We're working with Magento to create a whole new shopping experience that makes it even easier for merchants to sell to customers accessing their online stores from a desktop, mobile or any other connected device."

The North Face Selects Magento Mobile to Power Its Mobile Commerce Initiatives

The North Face, one of the world's largest outdoor products companies, is one of the first merchants to use the new product. Beginning this week, iPhone users in Sweden and the U.K. will be able to download the application and purchase products directly from their iPhone. Magento mobile provides functionality for iPhone starting today, with support for iPad and Android devices coming later this year.
